Comparing Cement Grout to Epoxy Grout is like comparing a push-bike to a motor cycle. Unlike other epoxy grouts on the market, the Starlike Crystal EVO catalyst component is labelled only as an irritant. It is neither corrosive nor hazardous for the environment. This is also important for the person using it – it makes it a bit more expensive but is so well worth it.
Read about the differences here: WHAT MAKES THIS GROUT DIFFERENT?
If you haven’t used Litokol Epoxy Grout before, please give me a call when you are about to use it, so that I can talk to you about the application process. It is not difficult, but is VERY different to Cementitious grout.

- A two-part, translucent epoxy grout for grouting transparent glass or artistic mosaics with joints up to 3 mm
- Ultra-low volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions
- Contains more than 50% recycled materials.
- The perfect choice when using multiple colours of translucent tesserae – “absorbs” colour from its surrounds
- Does not contain any solvents or hazardous chemicals
- Classed as an IRRITANT only
- Easy to use and clean-up
- Storage time: 24 months in original packaging, avoid freezing temperatures
- store any unused hardener in an air-tight manner (such as a a zip-lock bag), in the original tub
- Food Safe
- Mixing ratios (as per the manufacturer):
- Component A: 93.7 parts by weight
- Component B: 6.3 parts by weight
- This is roughly equivalent to a ratio of 15:1.
- A kitchen scale is great to measure out the grout
- If you calculate that you need 100 grams of grout, weigh out 93.7 grams Part A, and 6.3 grams Part B
- If you need, for example, 145 grams of grout, you will need:
- (145/100) x 93.7 Part A, (i.e. 1.45 x 93.7 = 135.8 grams) and
- (145/100) x 6.3 Part B, (i.e. 1.45 x 6.3 = 9.2 grams)
How easy is it to apply?
This product is incredibly easy to apply and clean-up. Clean off excess grout with a gloved hand or rubber kidney, then lightly rub-over with a very wet white scourer pad (rinsing frequently). If you feel any “drag” or stickiness on the scourer pad, add more water. Then wipe over with a squeezed-out sponge. Follow up with a detailed clean after about 20 mins – I use a pick, similar to what I would use with cement grout, and a dampish scourer. Polish with a soft, dry cloth, and the job is done.
Do not use Glitter additives with this grout. If you want to use glitter with the Translucent grout, use a sponge dauber to put it on to the grouted surface whilst the grout is wet (i.e. after clean-up but before curing).

Indicative Coverage:
How much grout do I need?
Litokol do have a usage calculator on their website, but it pays to remember that this is for flat runs of straight laid tile, with uniform grout gaps. In mosaics, it’s going to vary according to the width of your tesserae and interstices and eventually will be guess work. Just like mixing up sanded grout…we’re always guessing.
The easy answer is to use the same amount as you would with sanded grout. I have found that it seems to take slightly less than you would use of cementitious grout. Experience indicates that 1 gram will cover approximately 645 sq. mm (1 square inch) and you’ll probably be safe and have some leftover. Of course, It’s going to vary
- Measure your piece in millimetres (10mm = 1 cm)
- Multiply the width by the height (in mms)
- Divide the result by 645 = number of grams of MIXED grout you require.
- For example: a 30cm (12″) square piece will require (300×300)/645 = 140 grams of mixed product

Jenny M (verified owner) –
This product is awesome. Before using I watched the video from Peter at Treasury Road, and spoke to Alison when I picked up my order. This product is very easy to use and cleans up just as they said. Will be using again. My first project is a glass on glass touch lamp I have done for my grandson. Thanks for the advice Alison, worked a treat.
Alison Howson –
Thanks Jenny. I have to agree, it is a great product. Easy to use, easy to clean, with a lovely finish.
Awan E (verified owner) –
I have been using this product continuously for all my mosaics.
It is wonderful and due to it’s properties, it tends to reflect the colour of the (glass) tesserae it is next to.
Alison is wonderful and provides you with all the information you need to use this product correctly. Peter Twining’s (Treasury Road) videos show you as well .
Cannot recommend this product enough, it’s great.

Yes, Awan, I’m inclined to agree. It is a most wonderful product.
Beverley B –
Fantastic grout. I make detailed glass mosaics with small pieces that often get drowned in regular grout. This takes the guesswork out of which colour grout to use and saves me time by allowing me to use one grout rather than mixing multiple colours. Follow Alison’s advice and it’s pretty easy to master.

Thanks Beverley. You make incredibly beautiful mosaics using this product!
Noni Nelson (verified owner) –
