This food safe, stain proof, UV resistant is amazing: It is fully submersible, bacteriostatic, safe for the environment, and non-hazardous for the user.
The product has been used in ponds in Europe for many years. The Manufacturer warrants a useable shelf life of 36 months from production date, but I have personally used product much older than this without issue.
It is incredibly easy to use – no harsh chemicals or solvents required: just a light pressure with a non-scratching scourer sponge and plenty of water is all that is needed. The product contains an in-built cleaning agent that is activated by water so yes, water is your friend. Check out my Video on another tab to see how easy it truly is (the grout used in the video is the translucent variant, but the application and clean-up method is the same)
- – To achieve the “blending” effect, use in grout lines up to 3mm wide.
- – Remains workable for approx. 90 minutes
- – Can be used in ambient temperature of 10ºC – 30ºC
- – The initial cure time is approx. 2hrs (dependant on ambient temps)
- – Bird baths can be filled 5 days after grouting, larger ponds should be left to fully cure for 1 week.
Different Effects:
- – Starlike Crystal is designed to be enriched with Starlike finishes to achieve extra aesthetic affects: Litokol glitters, micas/metallic effects and Night Vision (Glow in the Dark) make the grouted surfaces unique and exclusive. Instruction for these additives are included in the relevant product listings.
- – can be coloured using Resin colourants for use in darker coloured areas of your mosaic. I recommend Passion Pastes from Colour Passion https://colourpassion.net.au/
- – I have also used Acrylic ink, sparingly.
Indicative Grout Coverage:
Use approximately the same amount as you would with cement grout. I have found that it seems to take slightly less than you would use of cementitious grout.
I have developed an Epoxy Grout Usage calculator for use with Litokol grouts. It is available to download for FREE HERE.
- It works in metric (millimetres/grams) and imperial (inches/ounces) measurements, and is based on the manufacturer’s published ratio of 94 parts by weight (Component A) to
Use this, and you’ll probably be safe and have a small amount leftover. Of course, It’s going to vary. If you are working with 3D pieces, you’ll have to work out an equivalent flat area.
Surface Preparation:
- – Ensure your adhesive is fully dry
- – Joints should be dry, clean, free from dust and empty for at least 2/3 of the tile thickness
- – remove excess adhesive from the tile surface. This product won’t dissolve water soluble glues readily
Application/Clean-up:
- Once mixed, apply immediately – DO NOT SLAKE – Just dollop it on!
- Ensure all gaps are filled in
- I spread the product sparingly over the surface – there is no need to leave a thick covering over your work
- Once covered you can now start to clean off – do not wait for the product to haze or crust over.
- Using a VERY wet scourer (squeeze out sufficiently so the water doesn’t run down your arm), GENTLY rub n a circular or diagonal movement across all of the work. Clean the scourer in clean water frequently
- The surface will turn white – this is what you want. This is the product emulsifying with the water.
- Once all covered, wring out the scourer/sponge well.
- Using the well-wrung sponge side, GENTLY remove the excess white residue.
- Using your normal grout cleaning products (min-spatulas, picks etc). clean out the joints.
- In hotter weather, I find it handy to have a spray bottle of clean water to make sure any sticky residue is removed.
- Polish your work with a soft lint-free cloth (old T-shirts are ideal)
Tool Clean-up:
Rinse off all tools in water. Allow residue left in your water bucket to settle. Pour off water into a rough area of the garden. Any gritty residue should be binned.
As with any grout, do not let any product into your plumbing pipes.
