Working with Mirror

Silvered mirror backing will break-down when exposed to cementious adhesive (a.k.a. thinset in USA), grout or many silicones.
The best adhesive for mirror is a Neutral-Cure adhesive. Soudal Crystal “Fix-All” is ideal for this – it is clear, and suitable for exterior use, so I find it is my adhesive of choice for everything, as you never know when a piece of mirror can pop into your work! It’s also available at Bunnings.
When cutting mirror, you can seal the edges before grouting with a Mirror Edge-Seal spray. This provides a barrier between the mirror and the grout.
Don’t forget, coloured mirrored tiles are backed with the same treatment, so will also break down if exposed to alkaline substances.
